BENEATH THE LAYERS

Study of Ganjifa as a manifestation of artistic intricacies. As part of NIFT’s Craft Cluster Initiative, supported by the Ministry of Textiles, We had the opportunity to work on a publication design for Ganjifa Craft in June 2020. Ganjifa, an ancient card game introduced during the Mughal era, features intricately hand-painted, circular or rectangular cards. My challenge was to balance the rich historical essence of this craft with a modern, engaging design that would appeal to contemporary audiences. By blending traditional motifs with clean, minimalist layouts, I aimed to create a publication that not only tells the story of Ganjifa but invites readers to rediscover and play the game in a modern context, preserving its beauty while keeping it relevant for today’s world.
